Upload the plugin to the website by going to Administration → Plugin → Add new → Upload → Install now. Then click the Activate Plugin button to activate the OptinMonster WordPress plugin.

Then click OptinMonster in the menu, enter API login information to connect OptinMonster account to WordPress website.

Now let's get started.

Step 2: Create the campaign

Log into the OptinMonster dashboard and click the Create Campaign button.


Next, you are prompted to select your campaign type, select the Popup option.


Next, choose your preferred campaign template. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will choose the Balance template. To select a campaign, hover over the template you choose and the Use Template button will appear, click the campaign.


You will now be shown an option to name the campaign and web you want to display on it. You can select multiple websites, and if you're not sure, you'll be able to add this later in the campaign builder. After filling in those fields, click the Start Building button.


From here, you are taken to the OptinMonster campaign creation section, where you will see the Balance interface. Now it's time to edit the campaign and make it your own.

Step 3: Edit your campaign

Start editing the campaign by replacing the default picture with your own. Click the image area to open the Editing Image Element on the left, then click the Select button to change the image. A screen will appear allowing you to browse files on your computer or select photos from the current photo library.


Once you've decided which image is best suited for your campaign, it's time to edit the text. Click the title text to select it, and then start typing in the left text box to replace the default title with your own title. Here, you can also take advantage of the formatting tool to select your fonts, make bold, resize and more.


Follow the same steps to edit the text.


You can also change the popup exit color by clicking on the blocks you want to edit and clicking the Background Color button.


If you choose, you can also edit your fields with the Editing Field Element. Click on the block containing the email field and the Sign up button to edit the text or add new fields like names and phone numbers.

Click the green Save button at the top of the screen to save your progress.

Step 4: Add an email provider

The next step is to add an email provider, which is essential if you want to create a campaign to grow your email list. If you don't have an email provider, you can sign up for any of the many options that OptinMonster is compatible with. After you create an account with the email provider of your choice, click the Integration button on the menu at the top of the screen, and then click the Add New Integration button.


Choose a supplier from the email provider list, here we choose Constant Contact.

Click the Register with Constant Contact button.


Then a popup will appear for you to log into Constant Contact, then click the orange Allow button.


Then enter Account Label, for the purpose of the tutorial, and click the green Connect to Constant Contact button.


Finally, select an email provider list from the drop-down menu. By default a supplied Constant Contact is called a General Interest.

Now that it's done, it's time to set the display rules.

Step 5: Set display rules

Select the Display Rules tab on the menu bar and select exit detected from the drop-down list. Then select the current URL of Wikipedia and the path is any page in the next display rules to load your popup popup for all your web pages. For example, you can also choose to display to new visitors or only on certain pages. When you choose your configuration, click the Next step button by color.

Step 6: Execute your campaign on WordPress

Next, choose your platform, click on the WordPress option.


Next, visit the WordPress website and find the OptinMonster plugin you downloaded earlier. If you don't see your campaign in the Online Campaigns section, click the blue Refresh Campaigns button. When you see the campaign listed, click the Go Live link below your campaign title. You will then see the green text Live next to your new campaign.
