How to create a Sitemap in your WordPress

How to create a Sitemap in WordPress - Over the past few years, search engines have become sophisticated, collecting data effectively, but they still expect the website to present more breakthroughs and more convenient.

When the search engine crawler comes to the website, it checks the sitemap to identify the entire website. Using WordPress Sitemaps, an effective crawler, this is the main reason why sitemaps form the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) platform of any website.

Importance of sitemaps

Sitemaps are a smart technique for quickly indexing websites. Instead of crawling every link one by one, search engine bots simply go through the URLs listed in the sitemap and index them. In this process, the search engine bot will crawl the website such as the latest update timestamp, page importance.

Sitemaps do not directly impact the SERP website rankings. However, they are essential for website indexing that leads them to search engine results. In fact, it is a challenge for new websites to achieve SERP rankings on their own without the need for backlinks.

Another aspect of implementing a sitemap is keeping the search engine up to date with the website structure. If you update your website or add a new page, these changes will only reflect in the SERP if you include changes to the site map. Even later, the changes are only visible after the next visit to the search engine bot.

What is an XML sitemap?

Traditionally, websites were used to have HTML sitemaps. These sitemaps were used by visitors to locate websites that were published quickly. Today, websites use XML sitemaps, search engines find them easier to use than HTML sitemaps.

Put simply, an XML sitemap is just a list of URLs that you want search engines to see, indexing SERP visibility.

XML sitemap

The data inside an XML sitemap is useless to humans due to the way it is displayed. In an XML sitemap, the URL listed inside the tag identifies the type of information contained therein. This data representation is useful for search engine bots (like GoogleBot) because the tag structure agrees that they crawl, index URLs easily.

Experts recommend that WordPress website should include XML sitemap and HTML for the following reasons.

  1. Both XML and HTML sitemaps help search engines crawl the website.
  2. HTML sitemaps provide visual help to users looking for specific pages on the website.
  3. XML sitemap is required to submit website to Google.

While XML and HTML sitemaps are important for WordPress websites, if you're limited to just one type, look for HTML sitemaps because it serves all purposes.
