✔️ Promote a community of participation

✔️Build your empire of influence

Become an Instagram Influencer # 1: Identify Your Niches and Pillars of Content

This image: you are scrolling through the Discovery page of Instagram and you come across a beautiful travel image. Since you like to travel and are always looking for more inspiration for a jet set, visit the profile.

You are far more likely to follow a page filled with beautiful travel images than that page filled with random images of a dog, a family, selfies, beauty products and flowers .

When people come to your site, they want to know what they can expect by following you and feeling confident that they will continue to receive that type of content. Because of this, the niche is absolutely important because it will help you grow your audience faster.

Instagram profile

However, identifying a specific topic to post about can sometimes be really difficult. We all have a variety of interests, so it might be strange to just post about travel, fashion or health care, for example.

Here are some questions to ask yourself that will lead you to your niche:

  • What am I most passionate about?
  • What do I know best?
  • What can I happily create consistently in content for a year without generating coins?

Once you have established your overall position, you will need to nail 3-4 pillars of content to better understand the type of content you will post on your Instagram. These content pillars are smaller, more specific topics within your broader segment.

Here are examples of content pillars of other influencers:

Lindsay Silan

Beauty, street style and luxurious fashion:

Lisa Linhh

Tourism, fashion and interior design:

Once you've set up those pillars, creating content is a lot easier because you can rotate between your content pillars every day.

For example, if I'm a fashion influencer and my content pillar is street style, jewelry and beauty, my Instagram picture might look something like this:

  • Monday: street style (workwear)
  • Third: close the gold chain on the neck
  • Wednesday: street style (casual clothes)
  • Thursday: street style (evening wear)
  • Friday: favorite flat lipstick
  • Saturday: street style (weekend outfit)
  • Sunday: street style (weekend outfit)

MIPO: Plan your content later! It's my favorite way to visualize my feeds, ensure consistency, and make sure I'm posting content from all of my content's pillars.

With the intuitive planning tool later, you can schedule upcoming posts to your calendar, then simply drag and drop your images into the order that best suits your grid!

Become an influencer on Instagram # 2: Stay consistent

A few years ago, it was possible to post sporadically and develop consistently. But in 2020, that's another story.

If you want to see growth on Instagram and always lead with your followers, it's important to be consistent.

As far as food posts go, choose a schedule. Whether it's posting every day of the week or just Monday through Friday, schedule your posting and commit to it. Your audience will want to know when they can expect to see new content from you.

Regardless of the schedule you commit to feed posts, I recommend showing on Instagram Stories every day.

The story on Instagram is becoming more and more important and it becomes the standard to spend more time viewing stories than scrolling Instagram feeds!

One of the hardest parts about staying stable and showing every day is that you may not have enough content or you may not take the time to plan ahead.

Solution? Batching.

Spend 1-2 days a week hanging out with friends, photographers or tripod and shooting content the next week!

Before shooting, I recommend that you list all the photos you want to take and any costumes or props you need to bring with them. Remember to take photos for all your content pillars.

Become an influencer on Instagram # 3: Write meaningful captions

Data from recent research by Fohr and Later shows that the average annotation length has more than doubled since 2016.

And it's no wonder: Users are looking for more than the influencers they follow than a nice picture and cute 4-word caption.

Instagram marketing influence report: Callout length

Annotations are a great opportunity to spark conversations and start forming meaningful connections with your community. They are also a perfect place to provide value and inspiration to your audience.

My favorite long-form annotation type is blog commenting, I encourage you to start incorporating your Instagram strategy as much as possible! A blog commentary is exactly what it sounds like: a small blog post.

For example, if you are a person Instagram influence on food , your blog's caption might be about the 5 super foods you need to add to your smoothie and why.

If you are the one there influence on tourism, Blog annotations can outline the 10 best things to do as a visitor in Bali.

Here are examples of great annotations from influential people in different niches:

Sarah Nicole Landry, @thebirdspapaya:

Quigley Goode, @officinglyquigley:

Leah, @thewanderleaf:

There are a few things to keep in mind when writing your captions. The first is when scrolling on Instagram, you can't see the entire caption without clicking more.

This means that what you lead your caption is extremely important. That first line should be eye-catching enough to stop scrolling and encourage users to click and read. Some examples of this might be:

  • The ultimate guide to events
  • 5 things you need to know about the event
  • The best restaurants in the city
  • The best points on Instagram
  • The true truth about Jars
  • Anyone else feel like that?
  • Do you want to know the secret of the game?
  • Do you know how to dig?
  • 5 ways to master
  • The best way to make money
  • Ever wondered

Second, end your caption with a call to action. This is where you invite your audience to get involved in the comments and start a conversation with you regarding the annotation.

This call to action can be a question, invitation to share or request advice.

Lastly, make sure your captions are easy to read and interesting. Nothing is worse than a long comment that is limited to just one paragraph, so divide your paragraph.

The key to this is to make sure that at the end of each paragraph, there is no extra space before hitting enter. And to rest between paragraphs, just copy and paste the spaces between these brackets () I promise there will be something there! 👏

MIPO: If you schedule and automatically publish your post with Then your line breaks will remain! No need to fix difficulties!

And be sure to throw some fun, brand emoticons at your captions to make them more fun!

Become an influencer on Instagram # 4: Focus on building a community

While growth rates and engagement rates are important metrics to keep in mind, influencers should focus the same - if not more - on the quality of their community. are cultivating with their audience.

In other words, strike a balance between focusing on depth and width.

When you're too focused on width, you can have a huge audience, but one person doesn't necessarily believe your advice because you didn't take the time to build it.

When you are too focused on the depth, you will have an audience trust your recommendations, buy the products you recommend and follow you to other platforms.

No matter what stage of your career you influence Instagram, building relationships in your community is the most important thing you can do.

Here are two of my best tips for building a community:

Receive the conversation:

After posting to your feed, paste around the app for at least 30 minutes after you post replies to comments and come back later in the day to reply to the rest.

When you receive the DM, always make sure to reply and start an honest conversation. Sending voice notes also adds a personal touch (and save your fingers!).

Your audience is talking to each other

One way to do this is by asking your audience to join together in the comments of a post.

In this episode of Her Life By Design podcast, I spoke with luxury travel influencer Lindsay Silberman.

She gives action suggestions on how to use community services to build a community. You can listen to the full podcast here.

Become the # 5 Instagram Influence Tip: Find out about your audience

Do you know more about your audience than basic demographic information? Do you know the types of brands your followers love, the jobs they have, the struggles and their goals?

To succeed as an influencer on Instagram, you really need to know everything about your followers because it will help you create content that they resonate and thus work well.

Analyzing Instagram objects

It will help you ensure that you are in the right kind of partnership with brands that resonate with your audience and your followers can buy from there.

If you want to create a product of your own one day (online course, clothing line, digital product), knowing the interests, wants and struggles of the audience will be extremely helpful. Useful in making sure you won't roll out your phone.

In addition to getting to know your audience through private DM chats, here are some of my favorite techniques I use to learn more about my community:

Spark conversation in comments:

Use your annotations as an opportunity to ask your followers to tell you about themselves in the comments!

Storing votes on Instagram Story:

The poll feature is one of my favorites as it is quick and simple for someone to vote and participate.

Some questions you can ask (of course, that should be adjusted according to your profile and specialty):

  • Do you live in America?
  • Are you older or younger than 25?
  • Do you have a 9 to 5 job?
  • Do you travel more or less 3x a year?
  • Do you like it when I post more landscapes or hotels?

Take a typographic survey or Google Forms:

Creating a survey for your audience is a great way to ask questions that require longer answers, like What is your favorite thing to follow me? Or what do you want me to post about more?

One thing to keep in mind when asking your audience to complete a survey is that it is quite time consuming. You need to provide a motivation. For example, all people who completed the survey were put into a giveaway.

Becoming the # 6 Instagram Influence Tip: Branding to reach you

One of the most common complaints I hear from new Instagram influencers is that brands don't come to them and, most of the time, it's because their pages aren't set up in a way that appeals to them. !

Here are some things you can do to ensure that potential brand partners know that you are open for business:

Make sure you have a business profile:

This is important not only for brands to see you as potential partners, but also because it opens important features like Instagram Analytics (and the ability to automatically publish your post later).

Analytics helps you see what is and isn't working to improve future content and share stats with brands.

You can switch your profile by going to Settings -> Accounts -> Switch to Business Accounts.

Switch to business profile

Display your email address:

It is possible to display your email address in your profile or accessible via the Email Email button on your business profile.

Instagram email button

Be strategic with your content:

Post the type of content that brands you want to work with will want to see!

If you're an Instagram luxury travel influencer who wants to partner with people like the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons, you should post that kind of content!

Becoming the # 7 Instagram Influence Tips: Network, Network, Network

If you want 2020 to be the last year you start getting brand collaboration, you need to put yourself out there.

Creating consistent content and building a community on Instagram without connecting with brands is like winking at a guy in complete darkness, they won't notice you.

Here are some tips for your next partnership:

Get on the Instagram Influence Marketing Platform:

Check out platforms like Fohr, pay and common. After setting up your profile, you will be contacted if one of the platform's brands finds you fit into one of their campaigns.

Research PR companies and introduce:

Public Relations companies are agencies that represent a range of brands and organize their influential marketing campaigns. Use Google to find public relations companies that represent brands in your niche.

Introduce yourself via email without any requests or intent to work with one of their brands and ask to be kept on radar for future opportunities. If you live in the same city with one of these agencies, organize a coffee and if not, chat over the phone.

On the Her Life By Design podcast, I spoke with a senior social media strategist from one of the top luxury PR agencies about how Instagram influencers can start a relationship with Our PR experts and conversations have lots of great insights. You can listen here.

Sample Influencer Media Kit later Bio

Create and send your media set:

Whenever you promote your brand or referral, be sure to submit it in your media kit! When building your media kit, make sure that it has the following:

  • Social handling and your site
  • Size objects on all platforms
  • Demographic objects (age, gender, location)
  • Examples of images you've created in the past to give them an idea of what type of content you created to advertise them. Depending on the brand you are advertising, you can upload these images!
  • List of brands you've worked in the past (if any)

Becoming the # 8 Instagram Influence Tips: Diversify your platform

No influencer should completely rely on Instagram. This is not only risky because you do not own your audience on a 3rd party platform and cannot control the ideas of the algorithm, this is also a missed revenue opportunity.

By increasing the audience on another platform, you will increase the amount that you can be paid for brand partnerships.

youtube desktop

For example, if a brand approaching you contracts with a few Instagram posts, you can add a blog post and ad to your email list and increase the percentage significantly.

What other platforms should you be on? It all depends on what your interests and strengths are, and which platform is best suited to your niche.

If you are good at cameras and in the right place for visual communication is important, YouTube may be the perfect place for you. Is there something valuable to communicate and be told well? Think of a podcast! Do you always love writing? Look into setting up a WordPress blog!

Building your email list is also extremely important because it's the only object you really own and you're not dependent on the existence of a platform.

Here are some initial steps to follow to build your list:

  • Think about what you know about your audience: What are they struggling with? What do they want to learn or get from you? Maybe it's a tutorial video that goes over the best yoga lines to relax, a PDF-packed list or a guide with 10 ways to style a blazer for the fall.
  • Create that free software: It can be in PDF format, video or template.
  • Set up the opt-in page: Similar to this page, this will allow people to enter their email address to get the software for free. There is some technological work that will need to be done here to ensure that once they enter their email address, they will be sent instructions, but nothing Google University cannot teach you. I prefer LeadPages to build opt-in pages and ActiveCampaign or MailChimp for email marketing.
  • Start advertising your free account on all your social channels: Explain the conversions or results people will get by consuming your free accounts and linking them to your opt-in page.
  • Watch your list grow!

Hopefully, these top tips give you an inspiration and insight to launch your social strategy as an influencer on Instagram.

Remember Success does not happen overnight, but with your consistency and commitment to your social channels, you'll soon begin to see a return in your efforts!
